Day 6 Whole30 Journey with Real Food Girl
Welcome to our crazy Whole30 Challenge. Where The Stud Muffin, and I get back to eating healthful, Real, and nutrient dense foods, plus eliminate all inflammation causing food groups for 30 days to see just exactly which foods are hindering us on our quest for optimal health and wellness!  Laney's BIG day at the Ocean Whole30 Day 6

Meet Delaney. Or, as I call her, Laney.  She’s suffering from something called Golden Retriever Uveitis. Basically, it resulted in glaucoma in her left eye, which rendered her blind in that eye, and her pressures are pretty high, so she had to take a road trip down to Charleston with me to see a Veterinarian Ophthalmologist.  We’ll be scheduling a procedure for her, to eliminate her discomfort, within the next couple of weeks. Glaucoma is painful in humans and just as painful in dogs. They get migraines. Golden’s are notorious about never complaining about pain, so most days it’s hard to tell that she is in pain, but on her off days, this fur-momma knows that her girl is hurting. 

Today is Day #6, and I wanted to prove that with about 15 minutes of prep and planning you can spend 5-1/2 in the car, not chew gum, not eat a bag of gummi bears (everyone knows you have to eat Haribo gummi bears when road tripping) take your dog to a specialist- which sorry, is stressful– pass by a few dozen good smelling restaurants and not run in for take out, stop by the beach for an hour to let your dog frolic in the water and love on some beach goers, eat a healthful and tasty lunch, sit in horrible traffic, stop at a rest stop along the busy highway to let your dog go potty, and let the travelers love on her, then walk past those tempting vending machines and not even turn your head towards them, get back into the car and finish your drive home, make a nutritious, compliant dinner, scarf it down, clean the kitchen, do the dishes, and then veg on the couch before bed and STILL have a tiny bit of energy left over. Oh, and I didn’t even think about cheating at all today. Not even once! 

Will you feel like this on Day #6? I have absolutely no idea! You may feel better. You may feel worse. It depends. Each Whole30 journey is different. I have learned that it does no good to compare. I need to keep my eyes on my own paper, and just work hard on MY journey. If you do Whole30, don’t judge your journey by my results. Aim for your own victories!

So here is what I ate for Day #6

Chicken Paprika RFG

Paprika Chicken with Mashed Potatoes is one of TSM’s favorite meals, so I made a few tweaks to this dish to make it Whole30 compliant.  Basically, I used clarified butter in place of real butter, and the mashed potatoes were made with homemade chicken stock, and clarified butter instead of cream and regular butter, so they were dairy free!  Which, surprisingly enough, didn’t make me cry. I totally thought that mashed potatoes without cream and butter would make me cry. I just whipped the heck out of them with a hand mixer to make them nice and fluffy and with that incredibly flavorful, oniony gravy, I didn’t even miss the dairy. Seriously! 

Needless to say, we scarfed this down. We added a large salad and some avocado for extra fat. Getting in extra fats in the form of food is hard for me. I may just start swallowing a Tablespoon of coconut oil once a day. I’d add it to a smoothie, but we can’t have smoothies. The struggle is real my friends. 

For my on the road lunch, I packed carrot sticks, raw cauliflower, tuna salad, some almonds and coconut flakes, a big glass of water, and some coconut milk blended with fresh pineapple juice to keep my hydrated and to get in my fats while I was on the road down in Charleston with Laney. Technically, we’re not supposed to drink juice, but I added it to the coconut milk/cream and had it with my lunch. A girl can only eat so many almonds and avocados and I don’t do olives. Eeew!

Breakfast was an over-hard egg, and some sweet potato, onion and spinach hash with chicken and apple breakfast sausage all cooked in clarified butter and coconut oil. I didn’t need to snack at all throughout the day.

All in all, it was a great day. I got to spend time with my sweet dog, watch her get doted upon by dozens of strangers. She got to see the ocean and play in it, and it’s a day I will never forget. Day #6 will always be the Day of Laney!!
